He ruled his herd like he was king and expected instant obedience from everyone. Nim was contrary enough that she never listened to him. Her sire kicked her out of his herd and told her to never come back when she was almost two. Nimue has wandered around Syllaure ever since.

The chestnut mare stood grazing on the plentiful grasses, ears moving constantly. The sun was warm upon her back, for it was one of the warmest days of the year so far. In the distance, the river was roaring through its banks, filled with the spring rainfall. Here in the valley, it was just a distant humming, while she knew that closer up it was deafening. Nimue had played there all of the time as a foal. It was one of the places she could escape her father and have time to herself. This place brought back memories. After grazing for a while, the mare's ears stopped flicking around, pointing towards the river. Nimue had heard something below the sound of the river. She lifted her head, looking around. She wasn't afraid of any animals, other than her father, who had ripped her away from her dam and friends. Nimue stiffened as an equine walked out of the small patch of woodlands. The one animal she hadn't wanted to see. Her eyes narrowed as the black brute walked towards her. "What do you want, father?" she said, hatred filling her voice.
